W GALLERY welcomes artist Emma Lacey to its edit. The Everyday mug is handcrafted in the designer’s studio from stoneware clay and finished by satin matt glazes. Part of a collection that connects both maker and holder – note the dent expertly positioned for your thumbprint and the large handle that allows for a good "hug around a warm drink" – this mug is inspired by soft textures and organic shapes.
THE EVERYDAY RANGE BEGAN AS A SCULPTURAL INVESTIGATION
Most work is hand-thrown using a fine stoneware clay and then assembled, manipulated or finished with the intention of adding something a little different to the objects we use everyday. An attempt to capture the sensuality of the human form whilst exploiting the fluid shapes and tactile surfaces which are possible in clay. Made on a hand-held scale it quickly became clear that the pieces needed to be held and experienced through touch. By designing in function, there is an invitation for you to experience the pieces in an intimate way. To hold and to drink from them. To take a moment to explore the form and perhaps consider how it is made or how you most like to hold it.
